Retrogarde
A downloadable Retrogarde for Windows
Known Issues:
- Because of an oversight, the downloadable build has a missing trigger which enables the change of levels, but we discovered it right by the end of the submit window. If you want to give a try to the less broken prototype, you can download the copy from this google drive link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1e2R0Df5YcGqseMhTCSiWNKdMgP1nfgSd/view?usp=drive...
- Sometimes it could happen that you can no longer change direction, resetting the level by pressing Q should fix the issue for the time being.
- Sometimes, when changing direction, it could happen that the enemies lose track of the player
- Since it's a prototype, some interactions with the NPCs could be instable a times but should work every route. For a first run, the robot route should be the less painful one and is the recommend route.
Thanks in advance and have fun!
Summary
In 2176, Heroes are the people who, standing against all odds, carry the weight of Humanity and save them from certain doom. After years of service, Heroes are asked to reduce more and more collateral damage and increase higher efficiency again and again and again and again-
With the help of an AI made from ancient Alien scrap, humanity made Heroes property of the World and are subjected to enhancements and de-humanization.
They who acclaimed the Heroes became their Jailer inside the Retrogarde Complex, and the people outside are happy and feeling safe, knowing that the Complex is shaping the next generations of efficient Heroes, but alas they don't know or care what happens inside.
This is a prototype made by people from "TheScostumati", a thriving community of game developers ranging from freshmen in the Arts Academy to AAA Veterans with years of experience in the industry.
The Prototype is made in Godot 4.3, the assets are made in Blender while the audio assets are implemented with FMOD.
Inspirations
Since the start of the jam, we asked ourselves "it's 2025, when does retrogaming starts now?" We've been settling with the PS2/Xbox 2001 generation, and looking back we remembered a game named "Oddworld: Abe's Oddyssee", a puzzle platformer where you need to save your people from certain doom.
For our game we decided make it our base, and evolve it with an added degree of complexity, with NPC with quests and branching dialogues depending on which quest you decide to follow. To further evolve the concept, we made the game in a fully 3D world, where the player needs to change axis in order to reach the end of the level, much like Paper Mario.
